What is it about white paintings that makes them so appealing? White seems the superior vehicle for the 'grafik', or mark making. A white painting on a white wall consumes the wall and strengthens the painting. White is about subtlety, integrity, and goes beyond decoration. There is nothing new about white paintings, there is Cy Twombly and Robert Ryman's works for starters. White seems so relevant to Australia, at once a symbol for the light and open space here.
